Martyr’s Sneak Peek for Thorn’s Birthday!

December 8, 2014

Hey guys! Today you aren’t getting a Monday Muse. Instead, you get a sneak peek into Martyrs! That’s mostly because I was swamped this weekend getting final preparations in place for our coming baby, attending Christmas parties, and visiting friends from out of town and I TOTALLY forgot to do a Monday Muse. Conveniently, though, today is also the birthday of one of my favorite characters in the series! Sounds like a perfect excuse to get out of a Monday Muse by giving you a taste of the novel. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! Cheers, –MC * * * But when he reached the bottom of the steps he paused. A man stood in the center of the room. Had he been there the whole time? Darius couldn’t remember. His shined, leather shoes glistened with blood. Darius recognized him. His suit. His stature. His steely gray eyes. The man from the market. A wide, wicked smile spread across his […]

First official sneak peek into Martyrs: Book Two.

July 20, 2014

Hey guys! Long story short, last night my husband and I were up until one in the morning playing Cards Against Humanity with a really fun crowd. We woke up late this morning and now we need to spend the day getting our backyard ready for our chickens to come home. Oh yeah. Remember my chickens? They’ve been living with my mother-in-law for a while, since she has a coop and we don’t. They outgrew the bucket we had them in and needed room to spread their little wings. Today, my husband and I are building the coop area up as well as shopping for much-needed chicken-protection (don’t want my babies getting eaten by wild skunks!). That being said, I don’t have a whole lot of time to write up a new blog post, so you get to enjoy a sneak peek at what I was working on yesterday–the first chapter of Martyrs: Book Two! Pieces of this text have […]

A writing sample on a holiday weekend.

July 5, 2014

Hey guys! Again, because this is a Saturday on a holiday weekend and because my dad and sister are in town, I didn’t feel like writing a whole long blog post. Instead, you get a writing sample from one of the writing exercises I did with a friend a few years ago. There’s actually a character sketch on this woman wandering around this website somewhere (here it is!). Noah Hill has quickly become one of my favorite characters, and when I’m done with Martyrs, I’m going to develop a story around this beautiful woman! Cheers, –MC * * * The man-beast screamed as soon as she presented her walking stick–her weapon–and it pointed. Its features were becoming steadily less human. Its voice, its human voice, sounded strange to her ears. As it spoke, she was aware of the demon inside, the demon it had to be. The demon’s language was a foreign one. Collectors had been incapable of understanding them, […]

Sneak peek into an old book.

June 4, 2014

Hey guys! Due to busy schedules, baby chickens, and a variety of other factors, I’m late (again) getting a blog post up. I decided to give up another sneak peek–this time, though, it’s not for Martyrs. This is the first section of the first chapter of the novella I wrote almost four years ago in my novel writing class. Hopefully you enjoy it! I promise to get back on track soon! Cheers, –MC (P.S. Also, note that this text is technically four years old. It may not match the quality you see in the Martyrs excerpts. You’ve been warned!) * * * The house was absolutely silent. Rebecca Cross stood waiting by the open doorway, black gloved fingers delicately thumbing a steel blade. Not a soul stirred. A gentle breeze from the open kitchen window cooled the air. The window had been left open before Rebecca had gotten there. In fact, the window had been left open every night for […]

Happy Memorial Day–and look! More Martyrs!

May 26, 2014

Happy Memorial Day, everyone! Today, you’re probably enjoying a day off, relaxing around the house, and maybe planning a big barbecue for tonight. It’s great that we have the opportunity to get a little time to ourselves and to our families this weekend–that kind of time is always appreciated. Because I want to spend the day with my husband, too, and because (again) holidays are usually the days where people don’t get online to read up on the blogs they follow, today I’m giving you another peek into my writing rather than a totally new article. This is a look into Martyrs–a short follow-up on the most recent sneak-peek you guys got. Cheers, –MC * * * Abraham drove them outside of the city, southbound until the buildings were more sparse, spread between blocks and blocks of empty land. At one point, Abraham pulled into a gas station, swiped a card through the credit slot, and the car began to […]
