Lazy Monday.

September 22, 2014

All right. It’s not really “lazy,” so much as it is “Now that I don’t have to write a blog post every day to keep up with some ridiculous promise to myself that I would for an entire year, I’m not going to.” You’ve probably gathered by now there’s no “Monday Muse” this week. Here’s why: I’ve been out of town since late night Friday and, in fact, as this article is being posted to my website, I’m most likely on my way home at thirty-thousand feet. Considering I’ll be far too pregnant to travel for the holidays this year, my husband and I went down to Spokane to hang out with my family before the baby comes. The last year of writing a blog every day was fun and exhilarating, but also exhausting. I promised myself (and my Partner in Crime) I wouldn’t work myself to the bone now that the year is up, so I didn’t write a […]

How writing made finding baby girl names almost impossible.

September 19, 2014

Thank god my husband and I are expecting a boy. Not only was it super easy for us to come up with a boy’s name that we both really loved (we had Calvin picked out for our first son’s name before we even got married), but I’ve pretty much ruined eighty percent of the girl’s names I actually like. In other words, I’ve used them for characters in my books. That may seem like no biggie, right? Like, “of course, MC–you’re a writer. It makes sense that you’ve used the names you like in your novel.” And while yeah, that is true and sensical, it also makes it really challenging for coming up with names for my future children. Because, you see, in some way, shape, or form… I’ve already used those names for children. A perfect example is Mackenzie. I love the name Mackenzie. I love the nickname Mack. I think it’s super cute and fun. I also have […]

It’s a boy!

August 27, 2014

For those of you who have me on Facebook (which, from what I can gather, is the majority of my readership at the moment), this isn’t exactly new news, but I’m so excited I have to write about it anyway: My husband and I are expecting a baby boy! Come January second, the world will have another dangerous force to reckon with: Calvin Lee Lintz. My entire childhood, I’d always dreamed of having boys. Maybe it’s because my mom was one of seven girls, and I was the oldest of three girls myself, but something about having a son was really attractive to me. It wasn’t necessarily that my sisters were awful. To be honest, the three of us were really awesome girls. I’ve heard horror stories about what some little girls turn into during their teenaged years, and none of us really went through that. And it wasn’t that I didn’t get along with my sisters, either. All in […]

The end is here!

August 18, 2014

I don’t know how many of you have been paying attention, counting down the days until my “write one blog for my website every day for an entire year” mission would be complete, but I’m here to tell you… today is that day. That’s right. As soon as this blog post publishes, I’ll have written three-hundred and sixty-five blog posts in just as many days. There are actually more blogs published on the site, since I’d written two before I’d decided to do the year-long thing, but that’s not important. What is important is that I’ve made it. It’s been a long year, so let’s go over what I’ve learned from this whole experience. One, it’s hard as shit to write a blog every day for three-hundred and sixty-five days. Harder yet when you go on two long vacations in that span and have to write the blogs ahead of time to make sure you don’t fall behind. Like, seriously. […]

5 reading nooks I wish I had in my house.

August 15, 2014

Happy Friday, everyone! Today’s a lazy day for me. In other words, I’m really busy and I don’t want to think of a longer blog post. Instead, I found a bunch of my favorite reading nooks because, well, I want one. When my husband and I can afford to do some more serious remodeling on our house (and when we’re done with remodeling that’s necessary rather than just, you know, fun for me), maybe we’ll look into building one. For the moment, I can live vicariously through the internet and the awesome reading nooks other people have in their homes. These were five of my favorites, but really, there’s no shortage of awesome nooks to check out online. Under The Stairs Underneath my stairway is a Harry Potter closet we use for storage instead of orphaned wizard children, but there’s something definitely alluring about the idea of having a reading nook tucked away in a space like this. Most under-the-stairs […]
