Happy Thanksgiving!

November 26, 2014

It’s Thanksgiving week! Technically Thanksgiving is tomorrow, but since I already do posts on Wednesday, I figured you guys could have this one a day early. I also don’t want to write two other posts this week. So! That being said, I’ll see you guys on Monday! Meanwhile, here’s a picture of Scout! Spend a great holiday weekend with your friends and family! Cheers, –MC

Monday Muse: Terms and Services

November 24, 2014

“When I agreed to the terms of service, I had no idea that it would lead to this.” –1,001 Writing Prompts to Ignite Your Creative Spark * * * Noah wiped the blood from her forehead. It smeared against her skin and left streaks across the back of her hand. She could feel it dribbling from a cut somewhere above her hairline, but the whole area was on fire and she couldn’t tell exactly where she’d been hit. All she knew was that some of it was coming down across her face, and the rest made her golden waves hot and sticky against her scalp. That didn’t matter, though. Noah got to her feet and cast a glance over her shoulder at the debris from the old apartment complex. A tiny body moved against her chest. Small fingers absently groped at Noah’s cardigan, her shirt, and the leather strap to the satchel at her side. The girl moaned, her eyes […]

Your idea sucks.

November 21, 2014

Maybe not this idea, maybe not the idea you had before this idea, but at one point, and eventually, and often, you’re going to have an idea that really, truly sucks. You’ll think it’s awesome at first, and you’ll work on it a lot and think about it all the time. You may even start writing it down. Then one day, you’re laying in bed and everything just clicks. Or, if you’re like me, it unclicks and suddenly you’re doubting everything about this idea. Something just isn’t working, and you’re not sure what, but it makes you doubt the whole thing. From here, you have two options: One, you can try to fly with the idea anyway and see if you can’t fix what’s wrong with it, which is something a lot of writers are apt to doing if only because they don’t want to consider the time they’ve spent developing the idea as “wasted” time. Or, two, you can […]

Happy birthday fluff-post! 5 facts about my relationship.

November 19, 2014

So, to be totally honest, you guys almost didn’t get a blog post today. I’ve been watching my business partner’s kids and house for the last few days, which basically means I haven’t been home much at all (it’s hard to “run home” in the middle of the day when I have to drop one kid off at 9:30 AM and pick the other UP at 2:15 PM and my house is a solid half-hour drive away). Being away from the house basically meant that my routine was totally thrown off and that I took that advantage in laziness and didn’t write today’s blog post last night like I usually do. So, long story short, by the time noon rolled around today I still didn’t have an article written. Oops. I was going to go off of that whole “today’s a holiday” thing because, at least in my world, it is–my husband’s birthday! Last year I wrote a blog about […]

Monday Muse: The Countdown

November 17, 2014

“There’s a countdown toward Midnight of the New Year. Something happens at the stroke of 12. What is it?” – 1,000 Awesome Writing Prompts * * * The coffee shop bustled. Men and women, drunk from the night’s celebrations, swarmed in and around her as Noah Hill slowly sipped her cappuccino and watched the numbers slowly tick downward. Two minutes, most of them said. Some sooner, some later, but all within a few moments from the time the clock would strike midnight and the New Year would begin. So many people were going to die tonight. She sighed and watched a man and woman make their way toward central downtown, where the big countdown to 2020 was held. Numbers flickered in gold above their heads. One minute and forty-six seconds. One minute and forty-five seconds. One minute and forty-four seconds. They disappeared around the corner, away from Noah’s relative silence toward the craziness and noise downtown. Every time something like […]
