Man, I made a killing today. My husband and I joined his mother and grandparents to garage sales this morning, something of a tradition during the summer for his family. Almost every Saturday, they go out and hunt for the best deals in town. I love to go to garage sales. My mom used to take us all the time when we were kids. Even though he and I rarely come away with anything awesome, today my Partner in Crime and I walked away with twenty pieces of baby clothes, a bassinet, a picture frame, Christmas decorations, a two-story ladder, and a few tools. And we got it all and walked away with twenty-five dollars more than what we had when we started. The difference between “dark and depressing” and “make you cry” books.

Do you remember when I said one of the reasons I planned NOT to read The Fault Of Our Stars was because I knew it would make me cry? I wanted to revisit that thought today and explore the difference between a book that’s “depressing” and a “make you cry” book, mostly because I’m a fan of the first and not of the second. There are a few books on my shelf that are “make you cry” books, and I haven’t read any of them yet. The one that comes most specifically to mind is “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” by Mitch Albom. I actually bought this book after watching the movie based on it by the same name, starring Jon Voight.
